We source (and collect) Antique Bakestones and griddles from all regions of the UK and Ireland. If you would like to buy (or indeed sell) a cast iron original bakestone, griddle, or cooking utensil (which is older than the 1960s) we are the best company to contact.

A Small Selection Of Our Antique Bakestones And Griddles
Our stock and permanent collection of antique cookware items like bakestones is constantly turning over and changing so the best idea is to contact us with your requirements and we will see if we can help you locate what it is you are after.
Prices Of An Antique Bakestone
We can offer no real guide to the price of an ‘average’ bakestone or griddle as there is no such thing. We have unique bakestones which are over 200 years old, ones that are 50 years old, ones which are plain and ones which the blacksmith has embellished, ones which are small, ones which are big – however, we are talking between £100 and £500 for authentic antique examples which we have in our collection. If we do not have the example/type you are looking for we will try and source it for you and get back to you – we have an established list of collectors and people waiting for the ‘right’ antique bakestone or griddle to be unearthed and sourced by us.

What We Do
After recieving your requirements we will email you photos of an appropriate antique bakestone or griddle if we have it in stock and the price we are looking for it. If we do not yet have what you are looking for we will either offer to put you on our waiting list until we come accross one or email your photos / diagrams of a bakestone or griddle that matches your request from history which we have in our research material. We can then offer to recreate an authentic and unique to you copy (reproduction) of this griddle type (see below) – this will be done by a skilled blacksmith who works for us – the price will be dependant on the style and difficulty of the request.
How The Bakestone Or Griddle Comes To You
As you can see in the photos the old bakestones and griddles which we source are used, old and mainly rusty. Some are dug out of an old barn, some out of the field, others from an old box in the farm attic etc. if a bakestone or griddle is not regularly used then after a few months they will start to have a small amount of surface rust, and over time this develops.

A Typical Example Of An Antique Bakestone We Can Source - Interesting Heart Shaped Handle
However, as the metal of the bakestones is so thick, rust is very rarely a problem – if it is cleaned, oiled and seasoned it is as good as it was when it was first made or cast, and it is ready once more for work in the kitchen. Yet some people / collectors / museums do not want them cleaned, but left as they are. So we leave the choice up to you.
Apart from minimal cleaning and oiling to stop oxidation we only thoroughly clean, oil and season a bakestone or griddle if asked to do so by the client or customer. On purchase you can request the bakestone to be left ‘as it is’ or request that we sympathetically and professionally sand blast the rust off, clean, oil and season the bakestone or griddle so that it can be used once more in the kitchen.
